How to Know If You Have Raccoons

Raccoons may look cute when viewed from a
distance, but anyone who has had them in their
house probably feels differently. If you give a
raccoon any means to get into your attic, you can
bet that you'll be calling about raccoon removal
before too long.

Raccoons are resourceful and relatively
intelligent and once they get in they will
basically set up house, have some babies and
consider this their new home. Sometimes, the
homeowner is unaware that he even has visitors
until serious damage has been done. Here are some
common ways to know if you have raccoons.

Noise: You can often hear animals up in your
attic, and raccoons make more noise than most, so
you'll probably hear them too. Rats and squirrels
have more of a scurrying kind of sound, while
raccoons sound more like thumping or regular
walking. And since they are nocturnal, you'll
hear the bulk of noises at night as they leave
and then come back to their 'home'.

They are also fairly vocal animals, making
different noises and growls. If there is a
raccoon family up there, you may be able to hear
the babies whining and crying from time to time.
Naturally, if you hear any of this, call in a
professional for some raccoon removal.

Empty Feeders: If you have bird feeders around
your property and they seem to be getting emptied
a lot faster than birds would be able to empty
them, you may have a raccoon problem. They will
eat whatever food is available, and while empty
feeders doesn't guarantee raccoons, it is a
possibility.

Visual Confirmation: Obviously, if you see a
raccoon climbing up toward your attic or coming
out, you have raccoons. They aren't particularly
concerned with hiding from anyone, so there's a
decent chance you may run into it if it's in
there. It's also common for them to come out and
sniff through your garbage on garbage day, so
that's another time you might see one.

Raccoon Removal: The instructions with raccoons
are pretty straightforward. If you see or hear
any evidence that you may have one, call in a
professional to get rid of it. Raccoon removal is
tricky and they have been known to carry disease
and become aggressive when confronted. It is good
to get rid of raccoons so that you have a safe
home for your family. Play it safe, call an
expert and put your mind at ease.
