A Goldendoodle Breeder Is Breeding A Family Pet For You

By Teri Farley

The eager to please, loyal, loving, intelligent and engaging personality of the Poodle and Golden Retriever hybrid has won the hearts of its owners. The number of Groodle breeders has expanded as their popularity has expanded. It is amazing how quickly demand for this hybrid has arisen. As a result locating a goldendoodle breeder is no longer an arduous task. Most puppies at the moment are being bred from a parent in a standard size.

The success of the Labradoodle as an allergy friendly, light to nonshedding dog inspired a number of smaller mixes. This new hybrid was first bred in the 1990s in North America and Australia to provide a larger version for pet lovers. Their popularity expanded quickly as the hybrids became known for possessing the wonderful temperament of the Golden Retriever without its coat shedding trait.

Golden Retrievers are known to be a great family pet with a sweet and loyal temperament. They are intelligent and easily trained. Temperamentally they are relatively calm once they grow out of the puppy stage. A Poodle breed is also an intelligent dog. The Golden Poo has an ancestry in both parent lines of hunters and water dogs. Physical appearance ranges between a shaggy looking retriever to a curl relaxed Poodle. Usually the appearance will fall somewhere between the two.

This playful dog requires early training. If the training begins early, the puppy is trained easily. But as the Golden Retriever requires to be shown who is the leader of the pack so also does its progeny. An owner will need to provide firm and consistent guidance. A moderate level of exercise is required. According to owner endorsement this pet plays well with others as it enjoys interactions with other canines and people.

They are a quick study and enjoy doing tricks. However, because of the intelligence of the breed and its energy daily training is useful. Treats and patience earn good behavior in time. Puppies are housebroken quicker with kennel training. Negative puppy traits are also curbed with its use. After the puppy is trained the kennel has outlived its purpose.

A poodle coat means need for lots of grooming. You may need to brush the coat daily and bathe your regularly. As with Poodles, the hair will become matted if it is not regularly maintained. To prevent overheating, shaving the hair in the summer may be required. The length grows to between 4 to8 inches. The color of the coat can vary between cream, apricot, gold, chocolate, black, gray, parti or a phantom hue.

Breeders have so far bred mostly First generation crosses. These retain strong hybrid vigor. This means the first generation is a healthier offspring than its parental breeds. With further breeding this vigor tends to recede.

Some breeders have breed first cross Goldendoodles to poodles to produce puppies with an even more allergy friendly coat. First generation hybrids may not have the characteristics of the Poodle coat. There are breeding programs developing a multi generational product. The hope is to have it recognized some day as an individual breed. Miniatures are now being bred as well. Dr. Kate Schoeffel, an Australian, introduced the miniature to North American breeders in 1999. Look around and you will find a goldendoodle breeder available to provide exactly what you are looking for.
