Maximize The Time Spent Training Your Dog

Training your dog is an important part of dog
ownership. Unless you get a mature dog, you will
need to potty train your puppy if you don't want
accidents in the house. Probably even more
important is to teach your dog that you are his
master, and he must obey you.

Establish a quiet environment when you go into a
room your pet is in. Play time is beneficial to
your dog, however, you need to teach your dog to
be calm as you enter any room. Don't acknowledge
your dog until you decide. This will establish a
controlled atmosphere.

Young puppies are prone to chewing on their
owners belongings. You can address this problem
by immediately stopping your puppy if he chews an
inappropriate item. You should then, instead,
give him the toys that he is allowed to chew.
Praise your dog anytime you finding him chewing a
permitted toy. Remaining consistent with this
training method can save your favorite furniture
or pair of shoes.

Until your dog is well trained, training should
be constant. If you are unsure that your dog will
follow any command that you give, training is not
done. Every interaction with your dog should be
approached from a dominant, training standpoint.
You should consistently teach your dog that you
are in control, much like a true pack leader
does.

By training your dog, you are helping him to
become a rule follower. Many times, owners feel
that since their animals have gone through puppy
training, they can just forget about it. But dogs
can become complacent just like their human
counterparts. Your dog must follow the rule
system strictly.

The key to successful dog training is to start
them as soon as possible. No matter how old your
dog may be it is never too late to get them
started. While it may take a little longer, you
can still achieve a great deal of success. You
can start training most puppies after they are
about 6 weeks old. This is the perfect time to
get the ground rules setup for a calmer more
obedient dog.

If you are trying to prevent your dog from
begging, the best thing to do is ignore the
begging completely. Don't respond either
positively, with a treat or petting, or
negatively, by shouting. Your dog will learn
quickly and remember for a long time that the
begging ended up with you paying attention to the
dog.

One of the first commands you need to teach your
dog is how to step away from things you do not
want him to touch. You can protect their safety
and stop them from destroying valuables by
teaching them to obey this simple command.

It's a good idea to keep in mind the number of
treats you are giving your dog throughout the
day. Giving him too many will add unneeded
calories to his diet and cause him to become
overweight. A lot of pet owners don't think about
how much weight their dogs can put on with
treats.

With the advice in the article above, you should
have a good idea on how to properly train your
dog. Being consistent with your training can help
you to raise a well behaved and happy dog.
