Unique Dog Beds For All Tastes

By Essie Craft

Store bought furniture for pets generally tend to follow certain trends that leave them looking common. There is not much variation in style and little personality, not to mention they often do not have a lot of decorative quality. Luckily, with a little imagination, it is a simple task to take ordinary items and create unique dog beds from them.

It is quite difficult to find commercially sold pet bedding that is comfortable, attractive and is able to compliment the existing design in a room. While specialty items may be purchased, the price for their more pleasing style is usually a bit more than most would prefer to spend. For these reasons and others, a lot of folks have tapped their inner creativity to make something more desirable.

An end table that is already part of the room, or one that will easily blend in, can be an easy solution to this particular situation. In many cases, the only thing that needs to be done is to remove any shelves or drawers and place the padding into the open space. Altering an already functional piece to serve a dual purpose saves money and eliminates any clashing problems.

Using existing objects for a new purpose is a great way to save money and find something that fits one's personal style and tastes. A large floor console television, minus its screen and inside parts, can be transformed into a private room for a pooch. It can even be made to feel like one with the addition of personal touches like pillows, wallpaper and photos.

Even table top sets and older computer monitors can become cozy nooks once the glass and components are removed and replaced with bedding. These are great for smaller pets who just want a little space that makes them feel safe and comfortable. They can be customized on the exterior in any number of ways including jewels, paint and stickers.

A yard sale coffee table is actually a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. It can be instantly transformed into a wonderful four poster bed just by adding wooden newels to the top to serve as feet and flipping it upside down. Personalization can be achieved through bedding choices, a creative paint job or a charming little canopy.

Some people look at vintage hinged top, hard body suitcases as garage storage space when in reality, they are potentially one of the cutest sleeping areas a dog could wish for. Simply fix it open, add something to the underside to protect the floor, insert bedding and decorate as desired. Those little pouches that normally adorn the lid are perfect for holding toys.

It does not have to take much time or money to come up with unique dog beds that suit both taste and decor requirements. Ordinary objects such as pallets, tires, PVC pipes, barrels, wooden crates and dresser drawers can become great sleeping spaces with just a bit of creativity. Using one's imagination when cruising through flea markets and yard sales could allow some fantastic ideas to emerge.
