By Eliza Mendoza

Miniature Dachshunds is the smallest version of Dachshunds, which may also be known as hot dogs and weiner dogs. There are many breeders, organizations and businesses that have miniature Dachshunds for sale.

This breed did not come to be until around the sixteen century in Germany. The name itself comes from the German language. Prior to the 1990s, mini kinds were made for the purpose of hunting animals. That is, they were used to catch smaller prey underground. Some of the smaller dogs were just runts from litter and others were the result of crossbreeding with Pinschers and Toy Terriers.

In the past, most of the miniature versions that were made from the process of crossbreeding did not carry all the characteristics of this breed. It was not until 1910 when stricter enforcement was placed on reproduction of the breed. Now, each coat type has its own breed that it is crossed with to get optimal results. Wire-haired kinds are mixed with miniature Schnauzers, long-haired dogs are put together with Papillons, and the smooth-haired versions are mixed with mini Pinschers.

Although this is a popular breed for a pet, there are not as many mini kinds available. Nonetheless, the animals may be sold directly from breeders, at pet stores or even at certain animal shelters. The dogs can be bought through online sellers and transported to their new home. The cost of the animals is expected to range and may be based on factors such as size and age.

The dogs are available in three main coats: wire, long and smooth. They also come in an assortment of colors, including: yellow, red, black, tan, chocolate, gray, or a combination of these colors. Their legs are short and bodies are long, allowing them to sit closer to the ground. The mini versions were created to hunt small animals above and below the ground. Dachshunds are known for having a good sense of smell that puts them above most other breeds when it comes to trailing.

Generally, these dogs are independent and high in spirit. They are smart and able to think on their own. Every animal is expected to have its own personality, so potential owners are encouraged to interact with the animal before purchasing it.

The dogs are believed to live a comfortable live in both urban and rural settings. As a breed, they are quite active and require a decent amount of time spent outdoors or on walks. Typically they live to be 12 to 14 years old. This breed is more likely to have Intervertebral Disc Disease, which is typically caused by obesity. Common complications associated with this disease include bladder control loss, and inability to walk or move the limbs of the body.

Generally speaking, this is regarded as a loved dog breed, especially as a pet. Numerous people and places around the world have miniature Dachshunds for sale.
