Shih Tzu Breeders In Ohio

By Ina Hunt

Beautiful Shih Tzu, or Lion dogs, are today popular all over the world. Although this breed exists for centuries, their first appearance outside of their homeland, China, happened in 1930s. These dogs are small, clever, lively and adorable, and anyone will enjoy having them as pets. There are several reliable Shih Tzu breeders in Ohio, and each of them will be happy to give you more info about this great breed.

These adorable little hairballs make surprisingly effective alert dogs. Devoted and loyal, intelligent and fluffy, they are always eager to play. Of course, their lovely appearance is their strongest card, but they do have many other great qualities. If you would like to have really interesting dog with strong character, this is an ideal breed for you.

Shih Tzu wants to be in charge and has a mind of his own. He needs a strong pack leader, or he will assume that he is the one. You need to be gentle and patient, but firm and consistent right from the start. Make sure that he understands the rules. Other ways, your pet might display some unwanted behavior problems, for example, obsessive barking.

Although Shih Tzus come in all possible colors, some are more popular than others. With the exception of liver colored and blue colored ones, they should have black noses, eye rims and lips. These two colors have liver or blue colored parts. Beautiful, round, large eyes are usually dark, or even black, but some varieties might have light brown eyes for example.

The coat is dense, long and double, but they shed very little. Most dogs don't shed at all. People prone to allergies can safely get one of these lovely creatures. Although most allergies are caused not by hair, but with skin dander, breeds that don't shed are more appropriate choice. The quantity of skin dander is related to shedding.

Every dog needs some level of exercise, even small ones. This lively, active dog will satisfy most of his exercise needs at home, but he will still appreciate his daily walk. It will make him much happier and healthier. Besides, dogs that don't get enough exercise sometimes might display behavior problems, or might become depressive. Daily walks will be great things for both of you.

Their short legs and long backs are the main reasons for their occasional spinal diseases. Most Shih Tzus have very sensitive eyes, and they need to be cleaned regularly. Anti-inflammatory drops prescribed by vet will probably solve most similar problems. Some dogs might have problems with their ears as well. Don't be surprised if you hear your puppy snoring, but tell your vet about it anyway.

Once you get Shih Tzu, you will have one devoted, adorable little friend for the next fifteen years or more. Small, especially toy breeds, live much longer than larger dogs. The problem is that they tend getting weight, and this affect their health. So, if you want to have healthy and strong dog, make sure he doesn't get too much food. He needs fresh water, good grooming, pleasant walks and your love and attention.
