Cute As A Teddy Bear Puppies For Sale

By Jocelyn Davidson

Also called Shichons or Zuchons, Teddy Bear puppies are adorable, sweet, playful, friendly. They're an easy to care for little dog, 11-16 pounds full grown. With a mix of colors and patterns, each is a unique and adorable individual. Zuchons want to please. They're stars in obedience classes. If you're looking for a small, cuddly, sociable, and loyal little dog, take a look at Teddy Bear puppies for sale.

At 11-16 pounds, this little dog is a great choice for apartment and condo dwellers and RV travelers. They bark to alert their pack members, but otherwise aren't too vocal. A stroll around the block, playtime in the backyard, or a visit to the dog park will satisfy exercise needs. But he doesn't do well with a lot of alone time. These gregarious little dogs need to be an intimate member of their human pack.

Teddy Bears are naturally docile, tolerant, gentle, and accepting of children. They do well with other household pets including the family cat. They're easy to obedience train, and quick to learn good potty manners. Fulfill this little dogs need for mental stimulation by teaching tricks. Most love to perform as this fulfills there need for attention.

Expect your Zuchon to live 15, maybe even 16 years. Most weigh between 11 and 16 pounds. They have large, round eyes that will melt your heart. The soft coat doesn't shed. This is a hypoallergenic dog, a great choice for those with allergies to dogs. Regular brushing is necessary to keep the fluffy coat from tangling. A bath and haircut is necessary every 4-6 weeks. The most popular cut for this little guy is, no surprise here, the teddy bear cut.

Mini Teddy Bears are a cross between a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. They look like miniature Zuchons, share the same adorable temperament, and are also hypoallergenic. They weigh 9-12 lbs, always looking like that cute little puppy you brought home.

Since the parent breeds are generally a healthy group, this little hybrid is a healthy, long living little dog. Like most small dogs, they occasionally develop knee problems. Eye problems and skin problems are in the genetic line. Although Shih Tzu's often have breathing problems, the hybrid usually has a slightly longer muzzle that alleviates this issue. Dental problems can be avoided by brushing your dog's teeth, feeding a high quality food, and providing dental chews.

This designer dog was first bred and named around 1994. It's not a purebred. It's not recognized by the AKC. There's no breed standard. The name Teddy Bear usually refers to a hybrid with a Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise for parents. Some also have Poodle or Yorkie heritage. Frequently Zuchons are bred to other Zuchons.

Since this isn't a registered breed, there's no breed requirement or standard. Because of the high price these dogs command, there are many unscrupulous breeders who mass produce without concern as to the genetic health of the parents, and don't take the time to socialize the puppies. If at all possible, visit the breeder. Observe the puppies and their parents. Ask for health records. Ask about a health guarantee or warranty.
