Dog Chew Toys For Heavy Chewers

By Iva Cannon

As members of the family and man's best friend dogs are held in high regard in many societies today. They spend a lot of time playing with their human counter parts and the bigger the dog the more durable the toy you use needs to be. Many retail outlets in North Wales, PA have a large assortment of dog chew toys for heavy chewers available to choose from.

Many are made of dense rubber that has proven to be very durable with the larger dogs that are known to destroy most items in short order. They come in many different sizes and shapes and some are designed to hold a treat inside the main body that the dog can get to as he plays with it. One of the most popular shapes is the black Kong which is tri-leveled and has an opening on one side to allow access for placement of the treat and for the dog to retrieve it. This toy has numerous manufacturers and can be found in any pet store.

Polyurethane is one material used for dog chews. It is nearly indestructible by dogs and comes in many shapes to accommodate different needs. There are bone shaped items that are designed to help keep their teeth clean and discourage plaque. Hard balls that cannot be popped or deflated are also popular.

A more natural approach for some people comes in the form of elk and deer antlers. They offer a nutritious way to give the larger dogs something that will keep them busy for hours. The antlers are collected after they naturally fall from the deer and are then cut and ground smooth on the edges to prevent sharp points that could harm the dogs. They are full of marrow that your dog will love.

Another natural treat that works well for dogs with powerful jaws is imported from Spain. They are roots harvested from trees and bushes in the Mediterranean Heath lands. These Ruff Roots are hand harvested and are an ecologically sustainable resource. They last a long time and do not splinter, stain or smell bad.

From the Himalayan culture come another all natural treat for your dog. It is a very hard cheese that is a staple of the people who make it. It is also imported for use as a treat for larger pets. The dog must spend hours chewing on the product in order to get it softened up enough to scrape off small pieces to eat. This cheese contains no additives and is gluten and grain free.

Giving your pets bones from beef legs or knees will also provide them hours of enjoyment. They provide a natural way to clean their teeth and prevent bad breath. Using beef bones cuts down on the incidents of splintering that so many other bones suffer from.

Regardless of the type of chew toy you select for your dog chances are good that you and your pet will enjoy many hours of playtime that may prove therapeutic for both of you.
