Information On Poodles For Sale

By Stella Gay

Germany has long been thought to be the country of origin of the poodles. Whereas its origin is in Germany, its development into a breed that it is today took place in France. Hunting waterfowls was the initial reason why it was developed. However, that has change since then and it currently being used more as an ornamental dog than a hunting one. As such, it may be mistaken to be a weak and fragile dog because of its appearance and current use.

The breed resulted from interbreeding several kinds of water dogs from Hungary, Portuguese, Spain, Russia, France, and Germany. Other historians also link its ancestry to Northern Africa. Because the breed has become widely used in modern societies it is better to have an understanding about it before setting out to acquire one. This article gives some of the facts one needs to know before going for poodles for sale.

Size is of utmost significance whenever making a purchase because it influences how much space needs to be preserved, care requirements, and food consumption. Generally, the three major sizes are standard, miniature, and toy. Although size varies, the breed remains similar. Additionally, a slight size variation exists between males and females.

The weight category for the toy-sized animals is between 6 and 9 pounds, while for miniatures is between 15 to 17 pounds and lastly for the standard size is between 45 to 70 pounds. The weight among the standard-sized dogs is variable between females and males with the latter weighing slightly higher. The color of the coat is another variable that provides a source of preference among buyers. The coats would be silver, cream, apricot, brown, white, black, gray, or a combination of colors.

Poodles have one great advantage that is, they do not shed its hair. It is this great characteristic that makes the breed a good choice for people with allergies to hair. The hair appears wiry, curly, and very dense, allowing it to be clipped, groomed, trimmed, or shaved. For those intending to use the dog for competition in a show, the nature of the style the hair can be made into is limited by the governing body.

The first factor to consider prior to acquiring a poodle is the maintenance. Regular grooming is required at the intervals of three to six weeks. Some need a higher frequency of grooming for the coat to stay clean. One way of avoiding the high costs of grooming is to shave the coat low.

As mention previously, poodles can live in just about any type of home due to its hardy nature. Estates and apartments are some of the examples of places they can live. The only major requirements are regular exercise and a lot of company from the owner. Indoor living conditions are preferred more by miniatures and toys. They have the ability to learn fast and they are easy to train too.

Owners should be careful not to accidentally teach bad habits to the dog because that can happen quite easily. Seeking the services of professional trainer or seeking advice on how to go about with the training is a good idea. Be warned that skipping training will lead to a badly behaved dog.
