Selecting A Burberry Dog Collar

By Aimee Schwartz

When selecting dog collars there are many factors to bear in mind, from functionality and appearance to cost and materials used. Collars are worn for many different reasons and the appropriate one is chosen to suit a particular purpose. It may be used for offering control, identification and maybe even for medical purposes. Many owners choose collars according to appearance too and a burberry dog collar offers exclusive style.

The trademark Burberry fabric was first used by the well-known British fashion house for their range of collars. However, their current line does not include collars. These originals can be found on sites such as eBay. However, many other suppliers of accessories for dogs have been inspired to use these iconic fabrics on their collars which are being sold online.

One of the main considerations when buying collars, however, has to be size rather than appearance. Those that do not fit properly cause great discomfort from being too tight or slip off if they are too loose. The neck has to be carefully measured and adding an inch for a small breed, two inches for a medium breed and three inches for a large breed is a general rule of thumb.

Whether collars are adjustable or not can also make a difference. On growing dogs, collars may quickly become too tight as they increase in size. The fact that some dogs have lots of hair should also be taken into account when determining fit. Collars that fit soon after a cut may not fit once the hair grows longer.

Collars also come in different widths, and the thicker ones offer more support than the thinner ones. They also tend to be more comfortable as they exert less pressure on the neck than thinner ones. However, smaller breeds may battle with wide collars as they tend to be much heavier.

There are many different types of collars suited for different purposes. However, the best choice for most purposes is collars with buckles. Leather or nylon is often used for such collars and the buckles are constructed of many different materials, from plastic to metal. Leather is long lasting and the oils in the skin make it softer the longer it is worn.

Collars are found that are more traditional, such as a plaid one in red, black and tan or a brown and red check. However, there are other styles that are more contemporary. A black, grey and pink check, for example, on a solid pink background is a modern choice. Tartans come in all colors, from red and green, to blue and black. Customization is also offered by some suppliers who make collars to order.

When choosing collars for pets, size, budget, functionality and materials are all important. However, appearance is always secondary to comfort. An item should never be chosen without considering all the factors that could affect the comfort of the pet. However, once the right fit is found, one can choose from a huge variety of options with regard to color and style.
