Pets are wonderful, they make a house a home. They love you, they want to spend time with you, and they provide companionship. However, before bringing one home, find out important facts about them. The following facts will help you understand Maltese puppies better.

This is a companion dog. What this means is, that it was bred to spend time with its person or people. If you are planning to leave your pet at home alone long periods of time, this may be an issue. It could suffer from separation anxiety. It may also misbehave and show destructive behaviors.

While this pooch is not very big, it has a big personality. As far as stature do not expect it to grow higher than ten inches at its highest point. It will likely only weigh around seven pounds. The perfect size for cuddling, and taking with you wherever you go.

One common complaint that canine owners often express has to do with shedding. Well, this type of dog, that is not an issue. They do not shed much at all. They are also hypoallergenic, which is wonderful news for those with allergies.

This canines small size does not mean that it is inactive. They have tons of energy. You may want to start agility training in order to drain some of it. It is also a nice way for you both to bond with one another. Besides that, it is lots of fun. These pups also make wonderful service dogs for those in need.

These canines are relatively easy to train. They are intelligent, and fast learners. Especially, if they are rewarded for their efforts. Reward based training works best with this puppy. Be consistent with your training, and never use harsh treatment, or your dog may become fearful of you.

The ideal home for this dog includes adults and older children. They often do not like other dogs, and small children scare them. Small children are often too rough for them. However, if the pup is well socialized, it may overcome these tendencies. If you do have little children, it is important to school them in how to interact with the pooch.

All in all, these cute little bundles of fluffy, energy make wonderful pets. They love to spend time with you. They pay attention and learn quickly. They do not get fur all over the house, and they will not make allergies worse. One thing that you should be prepared for is grooming, and lots of it. They have long hair and it must be brushed daily or it can quickly become matted. They should visit the groomer for regular visits as well. They will need shampooing, and trimming. Keeping the dog in a puppy cut will reduce the likelihood of matting. However, if you want the long, luxurious coat they are known for, you will spend much time grooming.
