Basics About Any Veterinarian In Huntington Beach

By Tammie Caldwell

The abbreviation vet comes from the word veterinary. Veterinary medicine is a profession that is practiced by veterinary physicians. These physicians handle the treatment, diagnosis, study, and prevention of various medical problems in animals. Their practice is confined to animals only and not human beings. In Britain, the word veterinary surgeon is used while Australia and the US, the term veterinary physician is preferred. Any veterinarian in Huntington Beach has the right qualification to offer several services related to the field of veterinary to the public.

Most states regulate and protect how the title veterinarian is used within its borders. One has to have specific training in that field in order to be referred to by that title. Practitioners can only practice veterinary medicine after completing formal education, receiving a license and being registered. It is a grave legal offense to practice without the right qualification and certification and the penalty involved is normally huge.

Most veterinarians work in hospital environments where they attend to animals directly. Presence of various animal categories allow for specialization among veterinary professionals. Major animal categories include, but are not limited to livestock, companion animals, zoo animals, and equines.

Veterinarians handle several and diverse responsibilities. In general, they are concerned with offering diagnosis services, treating medical conditions, and providing aftercare. Type of intervention given varies with the level of experience and qualification of the practitioner. However, despite of disparities experience and qualification, surgery seems to be the most preferred intervention option. Lack of speech in animals makes physicians to heavily rely on clinical signs to treat them.

Care in traditional and veterinary medicine has a lot in common. First, both fields give a lot of emphasis to prophylactic treatment as a way of preventing diseases likely to occur in future. As such, diseases like rabies and distemper are prevented through vaccines. Dental prophylaxis also helps to prevent dental diseases. Pet owners may also be educated so that they are better equipped to handle various diseases in future.

Veterinary medicine also has specialties just like traditional medicine. Some of the main specialties practitioners may specialize in include surgery, anesthesia, and dentistry. Organ systems also receive a lot of focus under separate specialties like cardiology and dermatology. Medical and surgical aspects of biological systems are combined in veterinary medicine as opposed to traditional medicine.

The US private sector employs more veterinarians than the public sector. It has been found that over 75% of all workers are employed in the private sector. Some specialize in research and work in research laboratories and facilities. Some of the places where workers who treat small animals work are veterinary hospitals and schools. On the other hand, those who treat big animals may work in charities, colleges, zoos, farms, animal food companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

Professionals in this field earn fairly good salaries. Those with more experience and higher academic achievement generally earn more. Private sector workers earn more than those in the public service. Currently there is an ongoing debate about various cosmetic issues such as debarking of dogs, docking of tails, declawing of cats, and cropping of ears.
