How To Choose The Right Clothing And Onesies For Dogs For Your Pup

By Elaine Guthrie

There are many different reasons why people choose to put clothing on their canine companions. If you are interested in doing so with your pup, here are some tricks and tips that you can use to choose the right clothing and onesies for dogs that will give you the effect you want at a price that you can afford.

While many people only think that small dogs can wear clothing, the fact is that larger dogs can wear these types of items too. The reasons that you may have to dress a larger dog up may differ from the reason that you might put clothing on a toy or miniature breed but you can get the same enjoyment from putting onesies on larger breeds as well.

If you have a dog that belongs to a short-haired breed, you may be surprised at how quickly they can become cold and uncomfortable in extreme weather. Some thin-coated dogs do not have enough hair to help them regulate their body temperature. In this case, a dog such as a greyhound, a chihuahua or a boxer may do much better if they are able to wear a poncho or other type of coat that will help keep them warm.

While you may think of protecting a dog's body against the cold, the ice and the snow, the fact is that it is often their paws that are also at risk. A dog can pick up antifreeze by licking their feet after a week and this can have serious effects on their health. Other dogs may become uncomfortable if their feet are cut on hard chunks of ice or snow.

Some individuals like to dress their dogs up for other reasons. They may want more decorative clothing items such as onesies, dresses or other fancy outfits. Some owners may want to match their pooch's outfit to their own. Some ensembles can be quite elaborate and have large price tags to match.

The reasons you are dressing your pup up can help you narrow down your search. For example, individuals that want to make their pooch look spiffy before a special event may want to find fancier outfits than individuals who are trying to dress their dog up for functional reasons. Keep in mind that custom outfits can look great but they often have high price tags to match them.

It is always important to measure your dog before you buy an item of clothing for it. If you are looking at a specific type of outfit, make sure you look at any fit guides or information that will tell you how to measure your pooch. Keep in mind that most outfits will come with a list of breeds that each size will fit but this is just a guideline. You may find that your canine falls outside these general size guidelines.

Looking online can be a great place to start. There are many sites that offer these items. You may also be able to find some great deals by looking at on sale items instead of full priced ones. Then you can enjoy putting your pup in many different clothing combinations and bask in the attention that they get from the people around them.
