How To Pick Newfie Puppies

By Brenda Warner

Man and dog have always found great company in each other. This statement has some truth on various levels. Although debatable, dog is the single animal with most uses to man. In as much as that may be true, not all dogs are that useful. Choice of a puppy and breed are key determinants of what grown dogs can do. The choice of Newfie puppies dictates both usefulness and performance. As such, one must select carefully.

Raising a good dog starts with choosing the right puppy. This process can be simple or extremely hard depending on the approach one takes. Either way, it requires one to possess some knowledge about dogs in order to be safe. There are many considerations to put in mind during the selection process and this article will discuss some of them.

The first factor to consider should be the species of dog one is planning on buying. Various breeds vary in their physical appearance, behavior, temperament, trainability, size, feeding habits, and exercise requirement. These differences can determine if one can provide good care or not. For people with busy work schedules, it is probably for the best to buy low-maintenance breeds.

Acquiring a puppy should get one thinking about their living condition and environment. For those with the intention of raising their puppy inside the house, plenty of space is necessary for movement and play. Big breeds are more comfortable in bigger spaces and that should never lack. Occasional grooming and daily walking make part of the necessities for a happy and healthy dog, especially big breeds. The demands of big breeds are more as compared to tiny ones. Besides eating more and needing more space, they also need more medical care because they have more health issues too.

Puppies raised inside the house need to be trained so that they behave appropriately. This means that the trainability of the puppy must be high enough. Dogs with high trainability learn faster and respond to instructions in an obedient manner. If the trainability of the puppy chosen is low, one should expect trouble in the house. An alternative solution to this problem would be to buy an older puppy that is already well trained. Similarly, one could hire a trainer to train it.

By now it is clear that apart from the initial buying cost, there are many other sources of expenditures that come along. Sources of additional expenses include feeding, training, treating, walking, and grooming, and they all make the venture more costly. Being prepared to foot those bills is important before making the decision of buying a puppy.

When one engages in wise choosing, they have a shot at eliminating certain sources of expenditure. For example, understanding the advantages offered by mixed breed over purebred is important. The former are healthier on average, stronger, and cheaper. Medical expenditure can be cut significantly.

Lastly, it is not wise to approach one breeder alone. It is necessary for one to do comparisons between various breeders to determine which one offers the best puppies at the best price. Consulting with a vet to help in choosing is a good idea.
