Importance Of Using Hay Nets For Horses

By Carolyn Allen

Different regions experience different climatic conditions which in turn has an effect on the productivity. Those owning horses in areas with low pasture have come to see that the use of hay nets for horses can be used to ensure that the feeding habits are well controlled. It is because they need to be fed throughout the year despite inadequacy of pasture.

Because of the inadequacy of pasture in the dry areas, avoiding food wastage is very important. Pasture nets ensure that the horse is only able to pick one mouthful at a time. Therefore, the amount of food that goes to waste is greatly minimized than in situations where the horse was to feed by itself. A horse cannot be able to pull out large chunks of food from the bag.

Injuries usually lurk around whenever animals are feeding. This situations may be avoided if food was to be made available in a bale. It is because the pasture on the floor may be dry and rough and can cause serious injuries to the nose and mouth areas. Using the nets, you can be sure that the animal will feed without incurring any injuries.

People are usually advised to control the amount of food intake of their animals. This mostly happens at different ages or it can be recommended by your veterinary officer. This can be easily achieved by using pasture bales to provide food for it. This is made possible because however the size of the feed it cannot overfeed. The owner will save the time that he could have been looking for pasture to fill the deficit of wasted food.

In situations where the hay was to be put on the ground, the animal may urinate, defecate or step on it. This makes the food to get contaminated. Its freshness and cleanliness becomes lost which is not good for the health of the horse. Nets keeps food enclosed in one place which prevent the food from falling to the ground thereby maintaining its hygiene.

Another benefit that can be realized by feeding your horse from a hay bale is that you can have several animals feed from a common net. This reduces any interference that they may experience if the food were to be placed on the ground. This feeding techniques works best for those with more than one horse.

Dried is highly perishable especially when it is not well store. This also happens when the animal starts feeding on it. This situation can be averted by keeping the pasture in bags. This greatly reduces the rate at which the hay weathers. It also ensure that the freshness of the food is maintained for longer periods.

When a horse is expectant, it is critical that you control the weight of horse. Doing this ensures that you avoid any complications that can arise as a result of the horse being overweight. The food bag controls the amount of food that the animal take in in any feeding session. This ensures that it undergoes a smooth gestation period.
