Pets: Let Yourself Have One This Year

By Bernice Wallace

It's a question dog owners ask often: are dogs allowed to eat cake? It's something asked a lot from dog owners because of a multitude of reasons: they're holding a birthday party for their dogs, they're giving them the cakes as treats and also other reasons. While they see no harm in giving it to them, some dog owners still want an assurance it's allowed. After all, chocolate is harmful to dogs if consumed in high quantity. Can the same apply to cakes?

So how can you learn to obey your instincts? How can you stop yourself from blocking these nagging thoughts? You already have the answer to that: you're pet. Yes, you got to look up to your pet because your pet is the key in learning to obey your instincts. So here are some ways that pets can teach you in learning to obey instincts. When a pet wants to do something, they do it. They don't think "Oh, should I do this? Should I go for it?" They'll do it. Whether they're hungry or they want a bath, they have that instinct to get what they want. How does that apply to you? You have to obey that instinct of just doing it. You can't be second-guessing yourself all the time. On the contrary, you can't be doing this and that without thinking all the time. But remember that if you want to do it and you see to it it's not going to cause any trouble, just go for it.

Ever notice when you bring new people into your pet's life, your pet is never too shy to meet them? Their instinct kicks in and they always just go and meet them. They're not afraid to mingle with them because it has always been in their blood to make a new connection. That's what you should do; don't be afraid to mingle with new people. You have that instinct to go meet someone so go ahead, meet someone.

If you read no.1, cakes have ingredients not suitable for dogs. Well, why not make your own cake? You can alter the ingredients that can be safe and eatable for your dog. You can have a cake with no sugar and with beneficial ingredients. Plus, it saves you money from going to the vet. Too lazy to make? You can always buy. Companies like Petco sell special cakes that are beneficial to dogs. They taste like cakes but they were made for the benefit of dogs so your dog gets the best of both worlds; the flavor of a sweet cake and the benefits of nutrients.

Your grandma should know cats have sharp claws. If handled improperly, the cat can scratch your grandma on either part of the body causing scars. Should you buy your grandmother a cat for her birthday? It depends on you. If you can explain to her the benefits and risks of owning a cat and she can take it, then it's a good present. If not, you can always get her something else.
