Things To Look For In Professional French Bulldog Breeders

By Amanda Murphy

Adding a new dog to the family is certainly exciting, especially when the choice is an adorable Frenchie. However, they differ from other breeds in that they have special requirements and are often used in breeding scams. This makes it even more important for potential pet parents in Ohio to have a keen understanding of the breed before entering the process, and to use only certified professional French Bulldog breeders to get their puppy.

Those who have a serious interest in owning their own Frenchie needs to have no misunderstanding on the facts that these dogs are both a lifetime commitment and a continuing financial investment. A purebred puppy is generally purchased for something in the range of $2000-$3000, and then there are the special diet requirements and both preventative and potential health concerns that can get costly. Though their loving attributes and show standards make them worthy of the cost, a responsible breeder is going to make sure potential owners are clear on what to expect.

It is only natural that a person may be tempted to seek out a bargain when looking for puppy, but there is a great risk in purchasing from someone who offers them for less than $1500. The problem is that the pups offered through brokers of this type are usually not of high quality, and most likely imported from overseas. There are not very many of these dogs available as they are quite difficult to breed and often have to be delivered by C-section - situations that are costly to the breeder.

One should be wary of any facility that tries to sell dogs using phrases such as "exotic", "rare", or "mini", as these terms are signs of a scam. There is no miniature version of this breed and any unusual coat shades or eye colors are going to be due to genetic defect. While the puppies will still be beautiful, but will not be accepted for show purposes.

Breeding standards are set by organizations in charge of maintaining the breed. Risks are minimized when utilizing one of the approved facilities. Those who make their lists will have solid reputations for understanding what the dogs need and how quality parental lineage results in the best litters.

Whenever possible, one should try to visit the facility and personally view the conditions in which the animals are kept. This is the best way to see the way in which the adults are treated, how the puppies are socialized, the the cleanliness of their surroundings. If this is not an option, then requesting random photo updates can be reassuring. Do not trust stock pictures as they are not litter specific.

Buyers have the right to request certain documents from the facility. This might include the certification qualifying the breeder, and the papers verifying the lineage of the pup being purchased. They should also get its registration with the UK, AKC, or UKC, which shows that it is a purebred. It might even hold dual registrations.

While no breeder can give a guarantee that a puppy will never have any medical issue, they should be willing to provide vet certification that it is free from any hereditary conditions. Interested individuals would benefit from taking time to research the breed and the provider.
