Prior To Your Visiting The Nearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders

By Douglas Allen

Many of your friends at the moment have one kind of pet or another, probably a cat or a dog. As such you may have been thinking of visiting the nearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeders and acquiring yourself a puppy. This may sound like a good idea at this time, but it may be best to hold off on that decision until you learn a little bit more about this breed.

This breed of dog will be a breed that will not come cheap if you are a first time buyer. Prices will range anywhere, in American dollars, of one thousand eight hundred to three and a half thousand per puppy. The price variations of course depends on its bloodline and if it is champion stock. Since it is not a cheap pet, you must definitely prepared in terms of its upkeep and such.

In general, the adult females and males will respectively achieve standard weights of 5.9 kilos to 8.2 kilos, which roughly converts to about somewhere between thirteen to eighteen pounds. This spaniel is not a very big dog either and will achieve only around eleven to thirteen inches in length. Due to this size it is classified as a sporting toy breed, for it does have sporting and toy dog characteristics and personalities.

Since this is a toy breed, it is one that craves a lot of human affection and proximity. It just has to be near someone or at least on the top of a lap of someone, it being basically a lap dog. It is highly dependent on companionship so it cannot be left alone for extended periods or it will become anxious. This separation anxiety will make it stressed and it will chew things to destruction.

As for its sporting side, it is a very rambunctious or rather active canine. It has a knack for loving to chase things, anything from other small animals and even insects. When it does so, it will ignore everything near or around it, particularly its surroundings even if its dangerous. Thus it is best advised it be kept fenced in or at least leashed to prevent it from getting hurt.

The breed has fine and long fur that is quite prone to matting. Due to this it will need to be regularly brushed, once a week at the minimum at least. The fur has to be trimmed regularly also especially around the anal and hind areas, which can be prone to infection. Also one should not mistake the fur to be hypoallergenic as it is not.

This is a dog that is however, quite easy to train, as it responds positively to praise and such, although at times it can be overly playful. In terms of temperament this spaniel is affectionate and polite and will get along with anyone.

As the dog ages, as with most canines, it will have its fair share of medical complications. This will run the gamut of knee and eye problems all the way to hernias and heart conditions. Thus one should be prepared as this dog gets older.
