Some Interesting Facts About Cavachon Puppies

By William Graham

In the beginning for most new owners they will just rely on standard choices for first time pets. These standard choices are based on purebreds that have been always popular such as the Chihuahua, the Bulldog and the German Shepherd for example. However, cross breeds are also out in the market that are getting quite popular also like the cavachon. If you want to know more about these dogs or cavachon puppies in general, then do read on in this article.

The breed came about in the mid-1990s, or so most people and breeders believe, when a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel was bred or mated with a Bichon Frise. The result of course is a cross breed that is slowly taking the world by storm, most probably due to its cuteness and such. It is a small breed dog that takes sporting traits from the spaniel and non sporting lapdog traits from the Bichon Frise.

When mature these dogs will stand a little over a foot tall and will weigh between fifteen to thirty five pounds, depending on the diet of course. In general they should be fed small breed dog formulas that are made for highly energetic and active dogs like the cavachon.

When taking about temperament, it is really kind of tough to put a finger on it for this breed. This is because it will take equal traits from its birth parents of spaniel and bichon frise, and so you can have mixed results. Either you will get a frisky and friendly pooch, or one that is very aloof and discriminating.

Life expectancy and health for this breed is fairly good for a dog its size, being about ten to fifteen years. This of course can be extended with enough love and care. Also good and proper diet maintenance is also important in extending longevity.

With relation to exercising, the standard thirty minutes rule outside everyday will apply to the cavachon. This is particularly true if they stay cooped up all day, especially if living in urban areas. If playing with them do play actively with them if you do not have time to take them out for a walk. It is a good idea that any owner of this dog must also have the corresponding energy to match, so that bonding moments can be that much more enjoyable and memorable.

People will say that the fur of this dog is hypoallergenic. Well for most instances they are partially correct, but not all the time. For although the bloodline that belongs to the bichon frise is hypoallergenic, the one belonging to the spaniel is not. So either you may get a dog with hypoallergenic fur or not, so it is best to make an allergy test first before getting this dog if you are suffering from any current canine related allergies.

In sum these are the basic and important pieces of information that any potential cavachon owner should consider and think about. There are other factors one should also consider and will be worth researching into such as price and also training techniques. It is always a good idea to fully research facts about any potential pets and such before making a final decision of taking that pet on.
