By Ronald Wright

Currently you may be thinking of getting new dog as a pet and a companion. This can be a totally new pet for you or maybe an additional or even a replacement pet. In any case, you may have seen a Boston Terrier Puppies for sale in Florida sign and this has kind of piqued your interest. Prior to your commitment and subsequent purchase decision, it may be a good idea to read on in this article first for more information.

The previous saw this breed first as a fighting dog, primarily trained for pit fighting with other animals or dogs. However, as this blood sport was soon outlawed, many of these small fighting dogs soon became unemployed, These remaining dogs became pets and companion dogs to those willing to take them in. As such they are also called little American Gentlemen since due to their markings they look like they are wearing a white coat with tails.

In line with their being called little gentlemen, they are extremely lovable due to their affectionate and lively natures. They are also very intelligent and can seem to get into trouble quite often with their own hidden agenda. They have spurts of hyperactivity that you should be aware of and keep in mind before they land you in hot waters.

Although small, they are muscular and quite sturdy. This fact owing to their history of being bred primarily for fighting in the past. They have large bulbous eyes and almost perennially erect large ears that make them look like small bats. At a very first glance they would look like French bulldogs to the untrained eye.

The only thing that will basically separate them from the bulldog line is that their faces are practically devoid of wrinkles that are always found on bulldogs. However, they do also have the shortened pug noses and small airways that make it difficult for them to regulate their core body temperatures. It is therefore not a dog to be kept in places of extreme climates and temperatures.

The lifespan of this breed is around thirteen to fifteen years on average, quite considerable for this dog size. This lifespan can be extended also by proper care and nutrition and love and care. It would of course not hurt for them to have regular check ups with their vets as time goes by.

Health matters wise you will get some issues that are unique to this breed. As they age, they will start to develop eye conditions and complications, most generally related to corneal ulcers. Since their eyes are quite large and stick out, care should be taken when taking them out for walks or runs.

This article hopefully has shown some pertinent information for you to use to aid in your decision of whether to get this breed as your next pet or not. As a prospective pet owner, you should always get as much information on your future pet so that you can be a more responsible and committed owner.
