Venturing Into Hay Bales For Sale In Connecticut

By Christopher Thompson

Dried legumes, grass or other herbaceous plants are cut and dried then stored for use as fodder for animals especially those that graze like horses, cattle, goats and or sheep. Hay is fed to the animals when they are not able to access pasture, when grazing is not possible like during winter or when lush pasture is too rich and may affect the health of the animals among other reasons that the farmer may consider viable. Hay is often very sensitive to the weather conditions during the time of its harvest. It is thus done carefully to make sure its quality is not compromised. Here is an overview on hay bales for sale in Connecticut and the delivery process.

The way in which haystacks are made varies from place to place and from season to season and the form in which it is required, either loose or bailed. Arranging stored hay well in the structures is crucial if the hay will be protected from harsh weather which may spoil it at times. Drying should be closely monitored and by all means, wet hay should not be packed as it can easily cause a fire outbreak from the enormous heat it produces due to respiration of bacteria during fermentation. This can lead to huge losses to a hay business owner.

Delivery of hay takes place after it has been harvested, dried and raked into windrows. They are then gathered into bundles and bales. These are hauled to a central position whereby picking and transportation to the required destinations are done. The process of hay delivery is not as simple as the words predict but rather a process that requires professionalism if quality results are to be observed.

Bulk transportation and delivery of hay save money for the farmer as opposed to ordering it bit by bit. Loading and offloading is left entirely to the company delivering the hay. Offloading takes place at the specified places which is the farm for many farmers although some may want to sell it. For them, delivery is done at their depot points.

Communication with the companies in order to place orders is done in a variety of ways. This depends on the facilities available in the company and the preference of the customer. Some customers prefer to place orders through physical visits while others may see a simple phone call as the most appropriate way to place an order. Electronic mail is also used by some. Whichever method used, the clients are able to get the information they require.

The prices of delivery are different in different companies with the exception of some constant factors. Delivery is charged according to the number of bales although some factors like terrain and distance also come in. Fluctuations in prices can however not be evaded from season to season.

Tipping off delivery guys has over time become common practice among the farmers as a way of showing their appreciation without necessarily requiring additional favors. Some customers, however, raise concerns over why this is so but the delivery companies usually avoid such claims saying that they pay them decent salaries.

Areas that practice animal keeping like cattle. Horses and sheep have experienced the rapid growth of this industry. There have been developments in service delivery and more continue to occur as traditional machinery is faced off by modern technology.
