Information To Know Before Buying Australian Labradoodles

By Gary Wagner

Labradoodles are a special breed of guide dogs that was developed in Australia by crossbreeding Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. This effort was made by the RGDAA, which is the Australian association responsible for enforcing standards of guide dogs in the country. What resulted of this effort was a smart and sociable breed of dogs that had a strong guiding instinct. As a result, it qualified as a guide dog, becoming useful to many people.

Originally, labradoodles were developed to be hypoallergenic service dogs. Australian labradoodles are classified as designer dogs because they are not a purebred. From being a purely hypoallergenic dog as had been intended originally, the breed proved its versatility as both therapy and family dog. They make perfect family dogs, which makes paying to have a puppy more than worth the effort and the expense.

Indeed, labradoodle is very friendly to the owner. It is also very strong. Its strength is inherited from the Labrador Retriever. Similarly, it exhibits a strong work ethic. This trait was passed down from the poodle that was used in crossbreeding. Labradoodles possess excellent traits inherited from the two parents. Apart from Australia where their origin is traced, the species is liked by many across the entire world.

Labradoodles are in three major size classifications. Normally, the size of the poodle used in the initial generation determines the size of the resultant puppy. Miniature, medium and standard are the three size classifications available. Therefore, the category of the species may range from medium to miniature. Normally, in many dog species, males have larger bodies and more weight compared to females. This applies to Labradoodles as well.

The weight range of the dog will be determined by the size category. The biggest and heaviest dogs are the standard sized weighing a maximum of 64 pounds with a height of 24 inches. The smallest are the miniatures while the medium sized ones lie between the standard and the miniature size classes. A medium sized labradoodle can achieve up to 20 inches at the shoulders and a weight of 45 pounds.

Puppies are usually great learners and exhibit a high level of trainability. They are able to master basic skills after a few repetitions. The first lesson of training that the puppies should be given is crate training so that they learn to stay inside when they need to be alone. This should be followed by training them to learn to poop outside the house or at a specific point in the house.

Room training is also important so that the dog can learn how to behave properly while in the house. All these different kinds of training should be provided when the dog is still young so that they can learn easily and get used to them. The puppy should also be trained to walk on a leash when outside. This is an important skill when walking the dog outside for physical fitness every day.

Lastly, feeding should be observed carefully to avoid animal foods that are considered toxic to dogs. When buying a puppy, it is important to learn more about the kind of foods that they should be fed on. It is important to adhere to proper feeding to avoid health problems later.
