Useful Information Regarding Finger Lakes Dog Training

By Barbara Campbell

Dogs that misbehave are not just a nuisance to their owners, but also to other people around them. When dogs behave naughtily, they cause people to develop a general dislike for dogs. This observation has been made several times in media and even on the streets. As such, as a dog owner, it is important to take the responsibility of providing proper training the dog before allowing it to interact with other people in public. This is what Finger Lakes dog training is all about.

The word education and training go hand in hand and if one tries to separate the two, it does not make sense. If a dog is well educated, it will learn good manners like obedience and affection to interact with people. Nevertheless, by training them, they gain knowledge on the skills and actions which make them good companions to humans.

The strictness used during coaching needs to be the same for everybody despite the breed being trained. There are a number of ways developed in order for this to be achieved. The method one uses does not matter but the results need to be acceptable. Choosing the right method to train a dog makes training an enjoyable task.

The whole reason why people train their dogs is to eliminate unwanted behavior scenarios and reinforce or introduce positive traits. When the process is handled right, the dog should be eager to serve and please its owner, who is also its master. In fact, a dog that is motivated and treated right can always surpass expectations. Handling the process wrong can even make it potentially dangerous.

The trainability of dogs depends on several factors, which include individual traits, character and the breed. There exist some dog breeds which are highly trainable and intelligent. They always portray the desire to please their masters by doing what is expected of them. Some examples of highly trainable dogs are poodles, Labradoodles, Border Collies and Germany Shepherds.

Before one starts coaching their dog, they need to first know the trainability level of their dog. This is important since with this in mind, one will know what to expect from the canine thus making the coaching session to be enjoyable as well as useful. One is also advised not to spend several hours on training but train their dog in 15-minute bursts.

Patience and persistence is very important in this exercise. It is important that the training be done persistently until the dog gains all the required skills. If possible, one should spend at least 15 minutes on coaching every day. One should also be patient with their dogs if they seem too distracted or difficult of mastering skills. Distraction can be a major problem with puppies.

Finally, not every person has the gift of coaching canines. Some might not always get time to engage in this activity. It is greatly advisable to hire a good trainer if that is the case. There exist many individuals who are skilled at this task and produce highly trained and skilled canines after a few weeks.
