Attributes Of Top Mini Australian Shepherd Breeders

By Rebecca Murray

Once a person has made the decision to purchase a particular breed of puppy, there are many things they need to consider. The first part of the process is to locate a breeder of high quality and solid reputation. When searching for mini Australian Shepherd breeders, there are certain attributes that they need to be possess.

Most first time owners may be somewhat confused as to where to go to locate reputable breeding facilities. There are quite a few options, such as Internet searches, online forums that cater to owners of this particular breed, and getting recommendations from accredited kennel clubs. However, the most reliable source is typically finding out who other people who have gone through the process would recommend.

There are groups on social media where individuals who own and raise these pups meet and compare notes, experiences and give each other support. Asking these people who they used will provide a lot of very valuable information to someone having to make such a monumental decision because they can share both negative and positive viewpoints for different facilities. This choice is super important because it can affect the quality of the animal.

Once the prospective owner has gathered a minimum of three recommendations, it would be in their best interest to thoroughly research them. They should contact the facility and inquire about their experience dealing with this breed. It might also be helpful to discuss delivery agreements, health guarantees, bloodline paperwork, and the cost for purchasing either a male versus female pup.

It is highly recommended that if at all possible, interested individuals physically go to the facility before agreeing to make a purchase so that they are well aware of where their puppy is being born. They might also ask to speak with the person directly responsible for selecting which two bloodlines to combine for the litter. Knowing how all the dogs are housed before pregnancy, during gestation, and while nursing, is important.

A breeder should be extremely knowledgeable in the behavioral habits and health tendencies of the breed, and able to answer any questions prospective owners would have. Some people prefer to hand pick their puppy though not all facilities will be accepting of this, so that is an inquiry one may want to make. While on location, one should pay particular attention to the health of the mother just to verify that she has been well taken care of and not being over bred.

If a breeder starts asking questions of prospective clients, no offense should be taken. Consider this a positive sign that they are taking a genuine concern for what happens to their pups after they leave the facility. By honestly answering these questions, valuable insight may be offered that will make raising the puppy easier.

When trying to decide which facility would best suit one needs, never hesitate to look a little deeper and ask any questions that come to mind. This can be a rather sizable financial investment and it is important to make sure that it is a wise one. Having a good start with a new puppy is the first steppingstone to raising a quality dog of outstanding stature.
