Muak Lek, Saraburi, Thailand

The New Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi) airport is really a fantastic piece of art, architectural Master Piece. Its amazing & practical design as well as its attention to detail is really ..... something that is fit for a King. Much improvement than the old Bangkok International Don Muang Airpot.
This is normally how Thais travel. In Malaysia, this is known as "van sapu" ..... although its more legal in Malaysia now as more permits have been issued in order to combat this so called illegal vans.... From Bangkok airport to Mual Lek takes about 3 hours and cost about 2000 to 2500 Bath to chatter this van. Since we charter it, we stopped by at Tesco Lotus to have our dinner & some light shopping before heading to Mission College, Muak Lek.

This is the place we stayed in. Since there were nine of us, we rent the whole house. It cost about 1500 to 2200 Bath per night. Very well equipped (full functional kitchen, 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, aircond, water heater, reverse osmosis water) ... good price for nine persons don't you think? .....
Muak Lek has beutiful houses.... very western design ...kind of Cowboyish design...... strange tough.... Muak Lek used to be know as a Cowboy town in Thailand..... hmmmmm

Spectacular breathtaking view of Mission College. Behind the college is a beautiful scenic moutain. This college is really full of greenery and scenic views. Good Feng Shui! It has mountains, lakes, river, etc

This is the Church where the wedding was held. Beautifully design as well..
These are the steps leading up the Church. The Church is strategically located up a hill.....hmmm does it remind you all of Batu Caves in Peninsular Malaysia ....?

The wedding diner reception, just outside the Church. Very well planned! The Church wedding started at 430pm. After the Church wedding around 6pm, the reception was held. A very Good idea, with no time wasted and all the guest dont have to travel far because the reception is just right outside the Church.

A glimpse of the Pre-Convocation Rehersal.... It was conducted in 2 languages... Thai & English..
After the actual convocation and after the Thai Princess Left. Very grand decoration indeed ... because the Royal family was involve in the Convocation Ceremony....

This is Muak Lek market. Looks like a Cowboy market huh ..... Infact, Muak Lek has many markets. This is one of them and this is nearest to the College. About 5-10 mins away.

Notice the Pink Eggs? .......

Guess what is the lady selling? ........ Its fried "..." skin .... "oink oink .....

This really caught our attention ..... can you guess what it is ........... ?!!!
A clue ..... its a reptile that jumps and eats insects ...... webek... webek..
Look at the dragon fruit and the queen of fruit (mangosteen)...... Fruits are abundant in Thailand and are all mostly very sweet and refreshing. We ate lots lots and lots of fruits during our 6 days visit to Thailand.

Look at the size of the durian. (Its the month of May and there are durians for sale.) In fact, durians in Thailand are almost year round. The durians there are very big in size, taste sweet, do not have the strong smell and does not feel sticky. It taste pretty awesome ...
..... and this is not Thai durian mind you .... this is another type of durian, from Cambodia.... Its very sweet, but has the same strong smell like our Malaysian durians ... :)

Lastly..... fruits fruits and more fuits. Notice the 3 kinds of manggo. They are all Thai manggoes. Our favorite is the Thai Golden Manggo in the center. It hassweet fragrance, good texture, smooth and very very sweet .... goes very well with Thai Sticky Rice Desert

A little bit about Muak Lek, Saraburi, Thailand.....
On May 9th, 2007 we took a short break to Thailand to visit our sister / sister in law's wedding and Graduation.

Her wedding and graduation was held at the same place and time in Mission College, Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province, Thailand.

More info on Muak Lek, Saraburi:
Saraburi is a Province, located at Central Thailand. It is situated about 108km (68mi) from Bangkok (about 3 hours drive from Bangkok International Airport Suvarnabhumi). Saraburi is believed to have been founded in 1548 during the reign of King Maha Chakrapat.

Saraburi Province has an area of 3,576.5sqkm (1,381sqmi) and is divided into 10 districts: the town of Saraburi, Kaeng Khoi, Nong Khae, Wihan Daeng, Nong Saeng, Muak Lek, Ban Mo, Phra Putthabhat, Sao Hai, Nong Don, and one sub-district, Don Phut.

Muak Lek is the largest of the districts of Saraburi areawise, located in the east of the province.
Muak Lek's area is about 681.4 km2. The current population in the district of Muak Lek is about 50,000 inhabitants.

Muak Lek is a very peaful, calm and a very gental district. The Thais are very gentle and obliging people and Nation as a whole.

Overall, we enjoyed the trip and especially the wedding a lot because it was simple, feeled with feeling sof warm, love and unity. The college student at Mission College really put their hearts into preparing for the Wedding. The entire night was filled with singing, entertainments and games. It was very well organised. The Wedding was held on Thursday (May 10th, 2007) evening. About 200+ people, mostly College Staffs, Lecturers, Students & family & friends attended her wedding. Nine of us from Kuching, Sarawak, attended her wedding in Muak Lek.

Then on Sunday, May 13th, 2007, she had her convocation / graduation. It was a very grand event as the Princess of Thailand was there to personally hand out the Certificate to the graduating students.

Lastly, we also enjoyed the Kingdom of Thailand's vast selection of fruits. We especially enjoyed the DURIAN & MANGGO & MANGOSTEEN a lot. We are also very grateful for the warm hopitally of Mission College friends and espcially to the generosity of Mr & Mrs Chiew & family.... thank you ver much .....
Overall it was a fruitful trip indeed :)
Hope you like our Travel Post for a change ..... :)
