Spay / Neuter

This is a community service announcement as well as Pet health tips.

One of the most important things you can do for your dog is to have your vet perform surgery so that she won't be able to produce puppies.

The operation is called 'spay' for a girl dog and 'neuter' for a boy dog.

Why is this operation / surgery important? ......

Did you know that in many cities around the world, there are close to 50,000 pets each year that have no homes and no one to take care of them?
When there are more pets than there are homes for them to go to, this is a problem and it's called pet overpopulation.

When a dog has a litter of puppies, it is sometimes difficult to find good homes for them. Most people cannot care for all of the puppies themselves.

Pups without homes get lonely, tired and often, very sick. You can be part of the solution to the problem of overpopulation (too many dogs) by encouraging your family to have your female dog spayed and your male dog neutered.

What is Spay / Neuter?
This is an operation that removes the organs of an animal that make it capable of producing babies. The operation is done under anesthesia (the pet is asleep) so the animal feels no pain.

The operation does not hurt! Your dogs will be healthier, happier, and more obedient if they are unable to produce puppies.

Dogs that are spayed or neutered are often healthier than dogs who are not. There are some diseases that happen less often in animals that have been spayed or neutered. These are good reasons to give your dog the operation, aren't they? It's a very responsible thing to do.

There is another reason why too many dogs in our neighborhoods can be a problem: ........ Stray Dogs (homeless)

Why are stray animals a problem?

1. Stray animals can carry and spread disease.
2. They may bite people.
3. They can cause traffic accidents.

So.....PLEASE! Spay and Neuter your pets. You'll be doing a good thing for your dog or cat.
