Article From SubmitYOURArticle.com: The Easy Process that will Teach Your Dog to Sit

Once you have read this article you will be ready
to begin the training of your dog, and teach him
how to sit.

Before we begin with the training instructions,
there is a few general facts on dogs, that I want
to let you in on. This will help you gain a
better understanding on how a dog thinks. If you
gain a better knowledge on how your dog thinks,
it will be much easier for you to teach your dogs
new tricks.

A dogs brain, spends a lot of its resources on
interpreting smells, and when it is busy doing
that, the rest of the body runs on the dogs
instincts. This knowledge will be useful to us in
our training sessions. A dog is also easily
distracted, and you should always make sure that
you and your dog are in a calm and well-known
area, before you start any training. This is
especially important with puppies, as they tend
to be more energetic than older dogs.

Let us begin with the tips on how to teach a dog
to sit.

Stand up and face your dog! Hold a goody in
either one of your hands.

Let the dog see and smell the goody and then
steer the hand with the treat over the dogs head
and towards his tail.

Your dog will be to busy with the goody to think
about what his body does, so he will
instinctively begin to sit down, in order to
follow the treat that is passing over his head.

When the dog enters a sitting position, you must
say "Sit" with a clear voice, and then reward the
dog with the goody and kind praises in a gentle
tone.

You then repeat this technique five to seven
times, but no more than that.

The lesson can be done up to ten times a day, but
make sure that you spread it out evenly, so your
dog will not grow tired with the training. This
technique will in most cases yield results within
7 to 10 days. You should cut out the goodies as
soon as possible, and also begin to train the dog
on the sit command in other places that might be
more stressful and difficult for the dog.

Good luck with the training.
