Labrador Retriever Training the Correct Way

Dog ownership is not only about having fun with
your labrador retriever - it's more about
ensuring the pet's well-being at the same time
providing correct labrador retriever training.
Even if there are many methods and tools one can
utilize during training, it is vital for owners
to determine first which among these methods or
tools is ideal for a particular labrador.

Proper training starts the moment you bring your
new pet home. But training at this point in time
doesn't necessarily mean involving complicated
lessons like teaching how to play fetch or
rollover. A new pet, be a puppy of around two
months or a grownup dog from the shelter, must
be given the opportunity to socialize and to
adapt to the new setting you brought him into.
Let him meet or see other pets, people, things
and places gradually and make each encounter
with them positive whenever possible.

Labrador retrievers are often even-tempered dogs
hence harsh or punishment-based labrador
retriever training is not really required. These
techniques can potentially create negative
effects to your training goals and to your dog
in general instead of improve the situation.
With perfect timing, consistency and
determination, you'll be fine with positive
reinforcement training, a training approach in
which a dog is rewarded for doing good behavior
to motivate him to exhibit that same behavior
again. Rewards, also known as positive
reinforcers can include food treats, toys,
praise and time to play with the owner or other
dogs. Food rewards need to be appealing and
really rewarding while toys shouldn't be too
small nor contain parts that can easily break.
Toys with pointed or sharp parts must also be
avoided to avoid injuries.

Positive reinforcement is also a great approach
to use during potty training. If you reward your
pet for doing his business each time you take him
to the right area, he'll eventually realize that
he gets good things for doing that certain
behavior. This in turn will motivate him to keep
on doing what he has been doing and will soon
help him develop regular potty routine.

While you are training your dog where and when
to pee and poop, you may also start training the
basic obedience. Start with the very important
labrador retriever training commands like stay,
sit, come and down for they are not only useful
in keeping your pet safe but also function as
foundation of more complicated tricks like
fetch, crawl, roll over and others.
