Boston Terrier - Fundamental Details To Know
The Boston Terrier (also known as the "American
Gentleman") is a non-sporting breed. They
feature a brindle, seal or black coat with white
markings. It was in the 1800s the breed first
came to be. They were originally used for acting
as a show dog. Nowadays they are popular as a
companion breed for families or allergy
sufferers. Qualities such as their playful and
well-mannered temperament are what they can be
recognized by. They're thought to originate from
Boston and their breeding lineage includes
English Terriers, the Bulldog and French
Bulldog.
They're recognized as a small sized breed of
dog. The official male and female guidelines are
15-17 inches tall and a weight of 15-25 pounds.
Their temperament is recognized as being
friendly, gentle and well-mannered. They are
unsuitable as a protection dog, as they are
generally reserved (but quickly become friendly)
towards people they're not familiar with. They
rank 54th in comparison to all other dogs when
being taught new things, and are confirmed to be
fairly smart.
They are great towards kids, which means they
are suitable as a family pet. Other pets like
other dogs and pets do combine well with them.
One simple chore is taking care of their coat.
They require a proper groom every month or two,
and occasional brushing every week or so. They
can very easily be suitable for staying in an
apartment, but prefer a small (though don't
really need one) yard that gives them space to
run around.
They are for the most part longer-lived, like
many small sized dogs, with a life expectancy of
10-14 years. They're vulnerable to deafness,
breathing difficulties, sensitivity to hot and
cold or allergies, but their major health
concern is cataracts or other eye problems.
Activities like play sessions or indoor games of
fetch will give them great pleasure. They have a
moderate to high degree of energy, which calls
for long walks each day to prevent bad behavior.
If you choose the Boston Terrier you need to be
able to give them plenty of exercise and
attention. They are not an ideal option for a
guard dog, but ideal for active owners,
apartment dwellers or families. This dog has
been very appealing to quite a few dog lovers,
and one of the most important reasons why is
that it is one of the best companion dogs due to
its amazingly gentle nature. One more likable
feature regarding them is they can be a great
choice for people with dog allergies due to
their hypoallergenic coat.
