Fundamental Details You Ought To Understand About The Dachshund

The Dachshund, also called the "sausage dog", is
a hound breed of dog. They have an elongated
body, floppy ears and a variety of coat types.
It was in the 18th century the breed is assumed
to have first came into existence. They were
initially used for hunting badgers. They're a
popular choice as a companion dog today.
Features like their famous "sausage" shape and
playfulness are things they can be characterized
by. They have been developed from the German
Shorthaired Pointer and Pinscher or the Basset
Hound (the actual breeds are unknown) and are
thought to have appeared in Germany.

They're identified as a small sized dog. The
recommended male and female guidelines are 8-11
inches high with a weight of 16-32 pounds. Their
manner is commonly known to be bold, curious and
independent. They are unsuitable as a protection
dog, as they are small though they are typically
wary towards people they haven't met. They're
tested as being fairly smart, and scores 49th in
comparison to all other dogs when being trained
to learn new obedience commands.

They are not always the best towards children,
which can make them not highly suitable for a
family pet. They do get along peacefully with
other pets such as other dogs. Taking care of
their coat is a simple (but can vary with the
coat type) assignment. They need a full-body
groom every 8 weeks, and regular brushing
through their coat every week or so. They can
very easily be suitable for being kept in an
apartment, but like having a small (though
doesn't always need one) backyard to run around
in.

As is the case with many small sized breeds,
they're predominantly long-lived with an
expected life of 12-14 years. Their major health
risk is spinal injuries, and they are also
susceptible to heart problems, urinary tract
issues, diabetes and obesity. Activities like
chasing a ball or play sessions will provide
them with hours of fun. They demand moderate
walks each day to reduce the likelihood of
destructive behavior because of their medium to
high degree of energy.

If you choose the Dachshund you ought to be
prepared to dedicate time to training them
(particularly not to jump and hurt their back).
They're not an ideal choice for families with
young children, but very suitable for families
with older children, seniors or apartment
dwellers. One of the greatest reasons why dog
lovers find this dog particularly appealing is
that it has a comical shape and bold temperament
that makes them easy to fall in love with.
