Miniature Schnauzer - Key Details To Know

The Miniature Schnauzer, often called just the
Schnauzer, belongs to the terrier dog class.
They have a distinct beard, bushy eyebrows and
wiry coat. It was in the late 1800s the breed is
believed to have first came to be. Catching rats
in homes and barns is the purpose they were
first bred for. They are a popular choice as a
companion dog for singles and families today.
Attributes like their bold and affectionate
character are what they can be distinguished by.
Their earlier ancestors are the Standard
Schnauzer, Affenpinscher and Poodle and are
assumed to have been developed in Germany.

They are identified as a small sized dog. The
suggested male measurements are 12-14 inches
tall and a weight of 13-20 pounds. They're
recognized for their alert, playful and
sometimes stubborn personality. They can be
unsuitable as a protection dog, as they are
mostly friendlier than their larger counterpart
with people they're not familiar with. They are
proven to be extremely smart, and is ranked 12th
compared with all other breeds when being trained
to comprehend new instructions.

They're good towards kids, which means they are
suitable for a family pet. Other animals such as
other dogs if they're socialized early do get
along well with them. Taking care of their coat
is a reasonably easy job. They need regular
brushing of their coat once every week, and
proper grooming once every 6 to 8 weeks. They
can easily be suited to staying in an apartment,
but love having a small (though doesn't always
need one) backyard so they have plenty of room.

They are primarily long-lived, as is the case
with a good number of small sized breeds, with a
life expectancy of 12-14 years. They're
vulnerable to liver diseases, diabetes,
allergies, skin disorders and urinary
infections, but their most severe health problem
is eye problems like cataracts or PRA. Activities
like playing fetch or running around will keep
them entertained. They call for short walks
every day to prevent the threat of hyperactivity
because of their fairly high degree of energy.

If you own the Miniature Schnauzer you must be
prepared to spend a lot of time with them. They
are not an ideal option for a guard dog, but
ideal for almost anyone with time to look after
a dog. Perhaps the best feature in regards to
this dog is seen in that it is the most popular
terrier in the world for its friendly and
affectionate nature as well as their lovable
appearance.
