Starting things off in the most basic way, the lab or Labrador retriever, is one of many types of retriever, which is also another type of gun dog.

They have many attributes that makes them highly suitable to be around certain people. Such people would include the young and the elderly. They are also very playful and athletic, and because of this, they are among the most popular dog breeds by registered ownership in certain countries.

Their country of origins would be the Great White North, Canada. These statistics indicate that there is not much of an average size difference between the genders. Other notable characteristics would include their smooth and short coat and their general life span of thirteen years.

Concerning its history, the modern labrador has its ancestry traced back to the island on Newfoundland, which is now part of a province somewhere in Canada. The founding breed was the St. Johns Water dog. Such was a breed that initially emerged through ad hoc breedings that were conducted by early settlers of that island way back in the sixteenth century.

The forebears of that particular type has been lost to history. However, it can be said that they were likely a random mix of Irish, Portuguese and English. The Newfoundland breed was likely the result of breeding between St. Johns and Mastiffs, those that were brought over by Portuguese fishermen. The small short coated ones were utilized to retrieve and pull nets in from the water.

When it comes to the colors, these creatures are typically registered in three colors. One would be black, then comes yellow and finally, there is chocolate. There are some that are sold as silver pure bred variants. However, some cases are currently being disputed in regards to their so called purity.

Concerning the yellow, some of it may fall down to a white like shade, thereby explaining the white Labradors for sale thing.
