Responsible Breeders Offering Cavachons For Sale

By Harriett Crosby

This is not a dog meant to be left to its devices for a long stretches of time. A mixed breed of two toy companion dog breeds, the cavachons for sale are representatives of an increasingly popular designer dog breed in the United States. This cross of the Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been bred to reproduce certain desired traits. The coveted attributes are the low shedding trait of the Bichon Frise and the good natured temperament of both these spaniel species.

This hybrid species was first bred in the Unites States in 1996. It is ideal for apartments and families with children and other pets. It is not suitable for use as a guard dog. Grooming will be required on a regular basis. As a recent mixture of two separate breeds, there is no authoritative breed standard for this hybrid. The Cavachon Club of America has set forth some basic guidelines for its desired physical and temperamental features.

As a designer breed, it was created to possess specific attributes. Size, temperament and coat attributes are key coveted attributes of this hybrid. From the Bichon Frise, Cavachons have inherited a reduced hair shedding coat. With an increasingly allergy prone population, its special coat characteristic enables allergy sufferers to be dog owners. Being a crossbreed, it should possess a healthier more diversified gene pool than pure breeds if it is responsibly bred.

The colors of the Cavachon coat generally follow shade variations inherited from Cavalier ancestry. Cavaliers have 4 shade variations. These 4 shades encompass a tricolor mixture of white, black and tan, the Blenheim combination of white and chestnut, a solid red Ruby color, in addition to a black and tan shade mix. The hair is a wavy silky texture. The water spaniel Bichon Frise, species, has a predominantly white colored double coat. This shade is not seen in most progeny. But, Cavachon puppies have inherited the targeted traits of this parent breed. This also means only frequent grooming will stop matting.

Adult dogs will range from 10 to 15 inches in height. Their body weight will be between 10 and 25 pounds. There is some variation in possible attributes, as hybrids do not share consistent features. The basic description is set forth by the Cavachon Club of America. Typical variations are not appreciably distinct from what the club has described.

This hybrid has sensitivity around the ears and eyes. In other aspects, it has similar medical issues as other modest dog breeds. Breeders promise hypoallergenic attributes and fewer reactions from dander allergy sufferers. To confirm this promise, before any purchase, tests must confirm this attribute.

As the Cavachon Club of America does not provide certified breeder profiles, screening breeders is going to be the responsibility of prospective buyers. The Humane Society of the United States has developed some tips of How to Identify a Responsible Dog Breeder. This is a checklist that can be used as a helpful tool in this process. Personally visiting a breeding facility is highly recommended before any decision is made.

Health problems that may be problematic are heart problems, hip dysplasia, skin sensitivities, ear and eye infections. First generation crosses tend to be more reliable in possessing the low coat shedding Bichon Frise trait. Their life expectancy should match that of their parent breeds. The sweet natured, lovable cavachons for sale on the market will easily become beloved members of the family in a short space of time.
