How To Choose Bengal Kittens

By Rebecca Allen

You have been dreaming of owning a cat that will be putting a smile on your face each time you look at it. Being your first time to own a cat, Bengal kittens would be the ideal breed to start with. With that in mind, you may also want to make sure that you find a good breeder to choose your kitten from. Trying to find the right breeder can prove to be an overwhelming task.

That notwithstanding, there are a number of ways through which one can find the right breeder in their community. To begin with, talk to friends who own breeds similar to the one you want to purchase. Do not be hesitant to ask questions that will give you an idea of what it is like to live with that particular breed. You will be surprised that most people will be too happy to discuss this with you.

Most people buy kitties only for the cats to start feeling lonely because they are not home most of the time. If you are such a person, you should be considering buying two kitties. They will keep each other warm in your absence. You do not want to come back home to find your cat missing because it went out trying to find company. Introducing two kitties from the same litter is much easier.

Do not feel obliged to buy two Bengals just because your breeder has promised you a great discount. You may want to look for another breed that will complement the personality of the latter. You must however make sure that you introduce these cats in your home at the same time. You do not want one to establish its territory before you introduce its partner.

Once you establish how many kittens you would wish to purchase, start calling some breeders in your area to determine their price range. You can then arrange appointments with the breeders. Break down your visits to the breeders so you can probably wash and change your clothing. This will help you avoid cases of cross infection among different litters and breeds.

While talking to your prospective breeder, you may also want to find out whether they will give you a purchase agreement. You want enough proof from the breeder that you have bought your cat from them. As if that is not enough, you should also find out if the breeder would accept the cat back in the event that someone in the home develops allergies with the cat.

While most breeders may not take back the kitties they have already sold, they will help you find another home where you can take the cat. This is very important in ensuring that you do not have a difficult time exiting the cat from your home. You may also want to find out from your potential breeder whether they will give you a health guarantee.

You cannot determine the condition of a kitten by looking at the photo. Visit the breeder to ascertain that their litter is in fact healthy. Ask to see documents verifying the medical tests that have been run on the kittens.
