Maltese - Essential Facts To Understand

The Maltese (also called the "Roman Ladies Dog"
or "Comforter Dog") is a toy dog. They have a
silky white coat. The breed is assumed to have
first came to be during the Isle of Malta. They
were first raised for acting as an exotic item
of trade. They're a popular selection as a
companion dog these days. They can be
distinguished by their playfulness, high energy
and need for attention. They are believed to
have originated in the Isle of Malta and their
earlier ancestors are unknown breeds that were
believed to be used for catching rats.

They are identified as a tiny sized dog. The
official male guidelines are 9-10 inches tall
and a weight of 4-6 pounds. They're famous for
their gentle, playful and fearless personality.
The breed is mostly friendly with strangers, and
this along with their size can mean they are
unsuitable as a protection dog. They are ranked
equal 59th compared with all other dogs when
learning new commands, and are confirmed to be
fairly smart.

They are not the best with children, and that
means they are not highly suitable for a family
pet. Other animals such as other dogs, cats and
smaller animals do live peacefully with them.
One demanding task is taking care of their coat.
They demand a proper groom every 4 weeks, and a
high amount of brushing of their coat once every
day. They can very easily be suitable for staying
in an apartment, but like having a small yard so
they have plenty of space.

As is the case with the majority of tiny sized
dogs, they are for the most part long-lived and
have a life expectancy of 12-15 years. They're
susceptible to sensitive skin, eye issues or
respiratory problems , but their most severe
health problem is teeth problems. They have fun
doing hobbies such as play sessions or runs
around the yard. To prevent the threat of
destructive behavior, they need moderate walks
each day as a result of their high degree of
energy.

If you choose the Maltese you ought to be ready
to spend plenty of time grooming and giving them
attention. They're not the best option for
families with small children, but highly
suitable for retirees, apartment dwellers,
allergy sufferers or families with older
children. One of the greatest reasons why people
find this dog so attractive is seen in that it
makes such a good companion due to its playful
nature and love for attention.
