By Edward Sherrock

With the help of high technology veterinary equipment, it normal these days to have a healthy cat with an age over 18 years. You must know some useful tips on how to take care of your cat as a cat owner. Here are some steps on how to take care of cats.

1. Make a yearly checkup of your cat. If there are some useful tips given by your vet, follow them. You can assure that your vet did the right thing to your cat because he studied animals. To keep your cat healthy, make sure to give him his needs.

2. Neutered cats live longer than other cats because they will have less stress. Neutering will also reduce the chance for a male cat to wander around. Female cats will have premature aging and stress.

3. Cats who live indoor have longer lifespan compared to cats living outside, experts say. When indoors, chances of getting sick is nil because the cat is not exposed to diseases which can be acquired outside at the same time, accidents are also being avoided.

4. Cats' nutritional needs are different from dogs and humans. Cats health is dependent on the kind of nutrition you will be giving them, hence they will be healthy when the right food are being given.

5. Make sure you do not make your cat heavy than what it should be. Aside from the right food, cats need exercise too. Play with them so they can exercise. Overweight cats are prone to diseases and diabetes is among them.

6. Ask your cat's doctor for vitamins. Supplement their diet with fibers and of course appropriate vitamins and minerals so that they will not get sick.

7. In the cat's annual checkup, teeth must be checked as well. This is because their teeth need cleaning too. When you take care of their teeth, you prevent them from getting kidney problems which is the leading cause of early death of cats.

8. Combing must be a part of cat's grooming. When you are making the cat clean, note of anything not usual in the cat's body. Bring the cat to its vet in case of anything unusual.

9. Make sure you avoid cleaners that can endanger your cat. Cats are very sensitive, even if they are in touch with harmful chemicals on their skin. Try to use cleaners that are not poisonous, to play safe all the time. Do not grow plants which are poisonous, poinsettias, for example.

10. You must provide the cat a place to sleep and relax so that you avoid the cat from getting stressed. Stress may be in the form of loud noises, people and other animals.

Cats are lovely pets. We have to be responsible and provide for their needs. When you follow these tips, your cat will surely be healthy.
